The following list includes some of the typical characteristics that your child might exhibit if s/he is being bullied:  

  • Comes home with damaged or missing clothing or belongings
  • Reports "losing" items such as books, electronics, clothing or jewelry
  • Has unexplained injuries
  • Complains frequently of headaches or feeling sick
  • Has trouble sleeping or has frequent bad dreams
  • Has changes in eating habits
  • Hurts himself or herself  (e.g., cutting)
  • Is very hungry after school for not having had lunch
  • Runs away from home
  • Loses interest in being with or talking to friends
  • Is afraid of going to school or other activities where peers will be present
  • Loses interest in school work or grades begin to fall
  • Appears sad, moody, angry, anxious or depressed after school
  • Talks about suicide
  • Feels helpless
  • Feels like s/he is not good enough
  • Suddenly has fewer friends
  • Avoids certain places
  • Begins to behave differently than usual
